A few weeks ago I refinished a piece of furniture, but left the wood natural. This week, I broke out the Chalk Paint (Annie Sloan's Duck Egg Blue) for a different piece.
Remember this desk I bought for $50 off Kijiji?
I loved the curvy lines and velvet lined drawers, but was not fond of the golden oak colour. The top was also in rough shape. Here she is now:
I stained the top dark (Minwax, Black) after stripping off layer after layer of heavy varnish and stain. The rest was painted in Duck Egg Blue, distressed, and waxed with clear and dark wax. I replaced the ugly shiney brass hardware with these found at Lee Valley.
I'm in love.
She's perfect in our bedroom, and the blue picks up the blue tones in my bedding and curtains. Only a few more details and then I can declare the Master: DONE!!

That is just beautiful! I love how aged you made it look. That is the prettiest shade of blue. If ever I want to paint a piece of furniture blue, I think I'll go whith that shade. I also like how you left the top natural.
You made that into a definite show stopper!

Gorgeous outcome, Andrea!! I love Duck Egg Blue. I want to find something else to paint with it- I just did a small table, but would like to do a buffet or chest. Guess I'd better get yard sale shopping.
